Research fields: Dynamical systems: orbits, collective effects, N-body models, gravitational instability, collisions, galaxy versus galaxy interactions, energy and angular momentum dissipation, gas recycling. Kinematics: solar vicinity, our Galaxy, O, B, A stars, star-forming regions, molecular clouds, Gould‘s belt. Interstellar Medium: HI, molecular clouds, star formation, OB associations, supernova remnants, expanding supershells.

1972 graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University, Prague, 1977 PhD in astronomy, 1993 DSc in astronomy, 1994 Assistant Professor at the Charles Univerity, 1996 - 2004 Director of the Astronomical Institute.
