From tropical rainforests to cold temperate zones, the question of what drives biodiversity variation has long fascinated scientists. Traditionally, biodiversity has been explained by factors like how quickly new species evolve, how long species have had to accumulate, or how many resources are available. However, these ideas often overlap and oversimplify the issue. This talk will explore the key factors shaping biodiversity, presenting our research on a new framework for understanding global species diversity. I’ll highlight the role of productivity in balancing speciation and extinction, offering new insights into a long-debated ecological question.
