Hawaiʻi from kingdom to statehood: what next?
Lecturers:
Thomas Jech
The Hawaiian islands have been inhabited for some 1,500 years,
and discovered by the Europeans in 1778. Hawai`i became
a Terrirory of the United States in 1898 and a State in 1959.
The Hawaiian nation is currently undergoing a cultural revival
and the Hawaiian language, almost extinct, is again an official
language on the islands and is used as a language of instruction
at some schools in the state.
