Scaling Biodiversity
Date: 19. 10. 2004 - 22. 10. 2004
Venue: Villa Lanna
Organized jointly by the Santa Fe Institute (SFI) and CTS
This will be the first international meeting devoted solely to this issue. It is
intended to be a venue for discussing current advances in the study of
phenomena such as species-area, species-energy and species temperature
relationships, as well as some other closely related issues, such as temporal
changes of biodiversity or spatiotemporal variability of species abundances from
a scaling perspective. We are hoping that this workshop will improve
communication among researchers, seek consensus about the empirical
generality and conceptual application of the scaling theory, identify future
challenges and opportunities for this cutting edge research, and lead to increased
understanding of the fundamental processes that generate and maintain
biodiversity on earth.
