Mgr. Jan Makovský, Ph.D.

After studying philosophy and French philology at the Faculty of Philosophy of Palacký University in Olomouc, he received his doctorate under the supervision of Petr Vopěnka and Michel Fichant at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of ZČU in Pilsen and at the Université Paris IV-Sorbonne. He was a Fulbright scholar at Loyola University in Baltimore.

His research interests include the philosophy of the infinite, especially in Descartes, Pascal and Leibniz, the question of the infinitesimal and the geometrization of nature, and the impact of mechanistic thinking on the contemporary situation of man in nature.
